Mo`olelo announces our summer 2008 acting classes…

 

BEGINNING ACTING (Ages 15 – Adult)

Instructor: Seema Sueko

Designed for the beginner who perhaps attends a lot of theater and once acted in the school play or always wanted to act but never gave them self the permission to try it, this class will explore the fundamentals of acting in a safe and fun environment.

DATES: July 8 – August 12, 2008, Tuesdays (except 7/23), 6:00 – 8:30 p.m. [July 8, 15, 23, 29, August 5, 12]

LOCATION: NTC Dance Place San Diego, Point Loma, 2650 Truxtun Road, Studio 205, San Diego, CA 92106

COST: $250 / $200 for AASD & AEA Members

 

 

AUDITION STRATEGIES for the PROFESSIONAL ACTOR

Instructor: Seema Sueko

Audition Strategies will challenge the actor go deeper, mine the script, and prepare stronger auditions. Each class session will include monologue or scene work, simulating a LORT audition environment. Being in relationship, maneuvering the twists and turns of your script, staying on action, living in the world of the play, layering and nuances. We’ll work on all these things. This class is designed for the working actor.

DATES: July 28 – September 1, 2008, Mondays, 6:00 – 9:00 p.m. [July 28, Aug 4, 11, 18, 25, September 1]

LOCATION: NTC Dance Place San Diego, Point Loma, 2650 Truxtun Road, Studio 205, San Diego, CA 92106

COST: $200 / $150 for AASD & AEA Members

About the Instructor:

Seema Sueko is the Co-Founder and Artistic Director of Mo`olelo.

Acting credits include: Jennifer in The Intelligent Design of Jenny Chow at The Old Globe and Yale Repertory Theatre (KPBS Patté and San Diego Critics Circle Awards), Connie in A Chorus Line at Seattle’s 5th Avenue Theatre, Mrs. Cratchit in A Christmas Carol at San Diego Rep, Wife in Rashomon at North Coast Rep, and The Phoenician Women at NYC’s Ohio Theatre. Three-time winner of the Chicago “Jeff Citation” Award for her performances in the world premiere of Rebecca Gilman’s The Crime of the Century (Best Actress in a Principal Role), The Waiting Room (Best Actress in a Supporting Role), and A Piece of my Heart (Best Ensemble).

Directing credits: For Mo`olelo, Permanent Collection, The Adoption Project: Triad, Since Africa. She will direct Since Africa at The Old Globe as part of their 2008-2009 season.

Playwriting credits include: remains (McDonald Playwriting Award, Anti-Discrimination Committee Award). Commissioned by Mixed Blood Theatre in Minneapolis to co-write Messy Utopia, which received the Ivey Award 2007. Currently commissioned by Mixed Blood again to write a play for young audiences on the theme of Islam in America.

Seema holds an MA in International Relations from the University of Chicago, is a member of Actors’ Equity Association, and was named one of the “50 People to Watch in 2005” by San Diego Magazine.
