 “Go, Tell Michelle:

African-American Women Speak to the First Lady”

Adapted by Robert Knopf i
n collaboration with
Barbara A. Seals Nevergold and Peggy Brooks-Bertram based on their book
Go, Tell Michelle:
African American Women Write to the New First Lady.

On the occasion of President Obama’s inauguration, writers Barbara Seals Nevergold and Peggy Brooks-Bertram asked women with ancestry from across the African Diaspora what they would like to say to the new First Lady. They collected 100 letters and poems from women in their early 20s to octogenarians and compiled them into a book, Go, Tell Michelle. The women who wrote described themselves as hairdressers, office workers, tenured professors, evangelists, community organizers and businesswomen. Theater Professor and Artistic Director Robert Knopf adapted the award-winning book to the stage, and Mo`olelo is pleased to partner with the Women’s Museum of California to present a reading of it on Tuesday, February 8. The writers, Ms. Brooks-Bertram and Ms. Nevergold will join us at this reading and we’re hoping you will, too. Here are the details:
